This event is celebrated the evening of December 31st, in order to welcome the New Year. Given the different calendar dates of New Year’s Day, the French Pope set January 1st as the standard date for the entire Catholic world in 1622. During celebrations of the New Year gifts, greeting cards, and animated messages (music, photos, videos…etc.) are exchanged between friends and loved ones in order to wish each other a happy new year. There are also parties, games, live music, national and international entertainment, organized by families and friends.
The celebration of the end of the year is characterized by the traditions, peculiarities and customs of each country. Romanians welcome the New Year by celebrating the fertility of the land in the past year, and also the year that has just arrived.
