About 34 kilometers from Varna is the mouth of the Kamchia River, one of the most beautiful places on the coast. The nature preserve is located 25 kilometers south of Varna, and is in close proximity to the Kamchia and Shkorpilovtsi resorts. One of the largest deposits of leucojum flowers in Bulgaria is found on the preserve grounds. There are also many animals found in the forest, such as deer, wild boars, foxes, wild cats and many others. There are lots of different kinds of birds in the region, some of which (56 in total) are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. The Kamchia river is home to about 25 species of fish, which make up the majority of the Bulgarian freshwater fish population. The Kamchia preserve helps protect this wealth of diverse flora and fauna.
