The Snezhanka Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria. It is often called the Pearl of the Rhodope Mountains. Although it has a short length of only 145 meters, it features all of the formations that can be found in caves. It is located 5 kilometers from the town of Peshtera in the direction of the town Batak. Artifacts found in the cave indicate that Thracians lived inside of it around 600 B.C. It was forgotten until it was opened to tourists in 1961. The name Snezhanka (snowflake) comes from the white layers that cover some of the formations. The cave is inhabited by four different species of bats.
