Here you will find the largest mosque in Bulgaria, and the 2nd largest in the Balkan Peninsula – the Tombul Mosque. Other things to see in Shumen are the monument to the founders of Bulgaria, artwork that was created to commemorate the 13 centuries since the establishment of the Bulgarian state (the only way to get there is up a flight of 1300 stairs), remains of the Shumen Fortress, located in the highest point of the town, and the Historical Museum.
