The Tomb of Demir Baba Tekke is part of the Sboryanovo reserve, located in northeast Bulgaria near the village of Sveshtari. This is a tomb revered by Christians and Muslims alike, and is included in the list of 100 national historic sites.
The tekke (tomb) was once the grounds of a prehistoric cult, later becoming a Thracian sanctuary. A six-angled dome rises above the mausoleum. The stones from the earlier sanctuaries were used in its construction. A small shrine with a polygonal shape and pointed roof is attached to it, and features wonderful paintings and murals.
It is believed that this is the tomb of St. Demir Baba. Followers of Alevism, one of which was Demir Baba, do not celebrate the usual Islamic rituals, but honor the graves of their saints. A place of worship named Teke was built around the tomb, with a sacred spring.
