The Archaeological Museum in Sozopol is found in the Old Quarters of the city. The museum traces the history and the millennia old cultural traditions of the city from the late 6th century B.C. to the 17th century. The museum is separated into two areas: Archaeology and Christian Art (17th-19th centuries). The museum houses an alabaster casket which held the relics of St. John the Baptist, and a small box with a Greek inscription describing the journey of the relics to the island of St. Ivan. They were discovered in 2010 during archaeological excavations on the island. Today, the relics are kept in the church of St. Cyril and Methodius.
