The birthplace of the great Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov (1880-1937) is at “High Hill” in Zheravna. The writer lived here until age 13, when he left the village to live with his family in northern part of Bulgaria, in the Dobrudzha region.
In 1957 the house was converted into a museum and shows the conditions in which he grew up. The house is modest and small, with rooms, crockery, and furniture typical of the region. The works of Yovkov are translated into more than 20 languages.
