The Ledenika Cave is one most visited in Bulgaria. It is open all year round and is located only 16 kilometers away from Vratsa. The road that leads there goes through the Vratsa Pass, ending at an altitude of 830 meters at the entrance of the cave. The cave is 320 meters long and has 10 chambers. The first chamber is the one that gives the cave its name. In fact, it becomes a real freezer in the winter, with temperatures falling to -20 degrees Celsius and the formation of large ice columns. This is an interesting phenomenon, as the temperature in the rest of the cave remains between 8 and 16 degrees Celsius, with 92% humidity.
The halls and formations in the cave are among the most beautiful in Bulgaria – the “Lake of Desires”, “Passage of the Sinners”, and “Concert Hall are some of the most attractive. Huge, impressive and beautiful with exceptional acoustics, it is regularly used by the Vratsa Philharmonic for performances.
The lights, bridges, railings, and stairs were renovated to make the visit even more enjoyable. There are several fields around the cave that are great for a picnic. If you desire, you can also go for a ride on horseback through the surrounding area.
