The Ethnographic Museum in Varna is inside a Revival house, built in 1860 in the “symmetric home” style. Inside is displayed a rich variety of culture and livelihood of the people of the Varna region in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
The first floor is separated into areas for two different types of work – sowing and reaping. Here you will find items used in raising livestock, and shepherd’s accessories. Also shown are items used for beekeeping, fishing, and viticulture.
On the second floor there are traditional costumes that give an idea of the clothing of the people in the Varna region, as well as their clothes for the holidays – Christmas, Lazarus Saturday, and Rooster Day.
On the Third floor you can see features and spirit of a rich household in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The museum also houses a library, which has 1650 books and albums as well as many magazines, such as “Bulgarian Folklore”, “Bulgarian Ethnography”, “Historical Overview”, “Centuries”, “Art”, and “Problems of Culture”. It also features foreign publications in Russian, Serbian, Polish and German.
