Valley of the Thracian Kings
The region around the town of Kazanlak is referred to as The Valley of the Thracian Kings, and is known for its many and varied monuments from Thracian times. Archaeologists have studied a very small part of the 1,500 tombs in the area (about 300). New discoveries will undoubtedly follow, and will further enhance our knowledge of this civilization, which is an inseparable part of the Bulgarian heritage. Among the most famous barrows are the Kosmatka, Svetashta, Ostrusha, Shushmanets, The Gryphons, Large Arsenal, and of course, the one found in Kazanlak.
