The Church/Ossuary in Batak is a museum, as well as a direct witness to the historical event that happened in its walls – the massacre of the inhabitants of Batak by the Turks in 1876. After the liberation of Bulgaria in 1878, the church was once again used for worship. Some of the bones of the victims from the Batak Massacre can be seen there. In 1977, the church was declared a national historic monument.
