In the southeast part of the town of Mezdra, on a rocky hill perched on the left bank of the Iskar river is a preserved piece of history seven centuries old, showcased today at the Kaleto Archaeological Complex. A tour of the complex will reveal the lifestyle of the people who inhabited these lands from ancient times to the middle ages. In the exhibition halls are found various archaeological sites from five different historical periods. The old fortress/complex is located on a strategic road, linking up the Roman colony Eskus with Serdika in Sofia. Visitors can also learn about ceramics and painting in the studios of local artisans.
