Vratsa Pass is found in the Vratsa Balkan Nature Preserve, and is one of the main entryways into the town. A symbol of Vratsa, its name is tightly connected with this place.
The pass is а gorge of the Leva River, stretching over an area of two hectares. The cliffs are the highest in the Balkan Peninsula (400 meters). Not surprisingly, it is the most popular alpine site in Bulgaria. It is divided into three parts, with over 140 climbing routes of varying difficulty (over 300 in the region), some of which are emblematic for Bulgarian climbers (The Mirrors, Second Congress Bracket, and Dogtooth). In the gorge there are preserved traces of the medieval fortress Vratitsa (10th century) which protected it.
