The Troyan Pass (Beklemeto) connects the village of Karnare to the south with the town of Troyan to the north. The passage runs through them, and is one of the highest in Bulgaria with a sea level of 1565 meters. The tedious road compensates for its many twists and turns with a breathtaking view. While passing through, you will find remnants of an old Roman road made during the reign of Troyan as well as the defenses built around it. These are a testament to its important role during the time of the Romans. Near its highest point there is a massive concrete arch. Standing at a height of 35 meters, the “Arch of Freedom” is a stunning site.
