The bridge of Kolyo Ficheto near the town of Byala, over the Yantra River, is one of the greatest achievements of the Bulgarian Revival. Work on the bridge began in 1865 on the orders of Midhat Pasha, and concluded two years later. It is built from limestone, with a length of 276 meters and a width of 9 meters. It features 14 twelve-meter arches, decorated with sculptures of animals.
The floods of 1897 destroyed eight arches in the center of the bridge, about 130 meters. They were reconstructed in 1922-1923 and reinforced with concrete pillars which take away some of the charm of the creation.
The bridge is now only used by pedestrians. Traffic goes to the parallel bridge to the south.
