Ancient Roman Amphitheater - Plovdiv
The Roman Theater in Plovdiv is one of the most famous monuments in Bulgaria. It is located between two hills (Dzhambaz Tepe and Taksim Tepe). The lower level has 14 rows of seats, seven staircases define 6 vertical sections. The highest level is not fully intact and only the foundations remain. In its time, the theater could seat about 3,500 spectators. It was excavated and restored from 1968 to 1984. It has become a major tourist attraction and is home to many events, such as the Verdi Festival and the International Folklore Festival.
