The town of Pomorie is located 22 kilometers from Burgas and has a population of 14,000. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, thanks to the favorable weather conditions, healing mud and mineral water, salt production, and of course the wonderful sandy beaches.
The earliest traces of human activity in the region date back to the 6th millennium B.C. Later on, during the Roman era, Pomerie experienced great progress, and then was built on a new location to allow further development of the town.
In later centuries the city continued to occupy an important strategic point. During the Middle Ages, the area was often a field of confrontation between Bulgarians and Byzantines, before it fell under Ottoman rules in 1453. To learn more about the history of the city and its traditions, we recommend a visit to the Pomorie Historical Museum, the Salt Museum, and the neighborhood with old houses.
