The Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory is located on the Rozhen Peak, 1750 meters above sea level and about 25 kilometers from the town of Smolyan. Opened in 1981, it is the largest astronomical observatory in Southeast Europe. There are four telescopes that monitor a wide variety of astronomical and astrophysical phenomena.
The observatory is open for visitors. There are lectures and demonstrations held under the dome of the large telescope (2 meters).
