The village of Dolen is found in the northern part of the Rhodopes, about 26 kilometers from the town of Gotse Delchev. It has existed since the 17th century, a dark period marked by forced Islamization of residents in the Rhodopes. Bulgarians came to seek refuge in this remote mountain village, which sits at an altitude of 1020 meters.
The village began its development during the Renaissance (18th -19th centuries) with the production of tobacco and livestock, as well as the transport of goods and silverware.
Today the village is an architecture reserve with more than 70 preserved Renaissance houses, making it one of the most beautiful Bulgarian villages. The small cobbled streets keep the spirit and memory of the past. This is a different destination where you can relax, and breathe the pure air of the surrounding environment.
