The Prahova Valley is one of the main starting points for hikes in the Carpathians. Its most well-known mountain resorts are Busteni, Predeal (1035 meters), Azuga and Sinaia. This valley connects the towns of Ploiesti and Busteni to Predeal to the north. Before Transylvania became a Romanian territory in 1918, the entire Prahova Valley was north of Wallachia, as the border at that time was the outskirts of Predeal.
The valley, with its beautiful and hilly landscapes, is considered the gateway to Transylvania, along with the Olt Valley.
