Recognized as a UNESCO site in 1999, the church in Prejmer is an important part of the region of Brasov. During the 13th century, King Andrew II of Hungary gave this territory to the Knights of the Teutonic Order. The Knights then began the construction of a church next to the walls of a fortress, which was also built by them with some help from the Saxons.
As with most monuments in the area, the fortified church in Prejmer was damaged many times due to various invasions and earthquakes. Still, it is considered one of the best preserved medieval churches in Eastern Europe. The walls, ranging from 3 to 4 meters in width and standing at a height of 12 meters, have enabled the church to withstand the various invasions from the east.
