The Saone Monastery is certainly one of the nicest in Dobrogea, and even across Romania. This building is an island created by man in a sea of nature. It is located along the marshes of Lake Telnicea, a few kilometers from the Danube and the border of Ukraine. Nature is king here, and it is not uncommon to see herons, black herons and even pelicans near the monastic complex.
Construction of the monastery was begun by a group of monks from the Celik-Dere Monastery. Completed in 1846, the Saone Monastery is a home for believers, who partake in the maintenance of the monastery, raising animals (mainly peacocks), growing fruits and vegetables and preparing food for guests.
