The Horezu Monastery, built between 1690 and 1693, is the work of Prince Constantin Brancoveanu (1654 – 1714). The monastery is one of the best examples of the architectural style referred to by Romanians as “Brancovenesque”.
The Horezu monastery was a revolutionary project for its time, following the rules of symmetry typical of the Italian Renaissance down to the tiniest details. In terms of architectural heritage, the monastery is also included in the list of monuments protected by UNESCO.
This is one of the largest medieval monasteries in Romania. It is home to the Bolnitei Church (founded by the wife of Brancoveanu), and a few solitary houses.
