The Great Mosque of Constanta is the largest mosque in Romania. It was built between 1910 and 1913 at the request of King Carol I, in honor of the Muslim community. Located in Ovidiu Square, this mosque was modelled after the Konya Mosque in Anatoli, Turkey. It was built from stone, and brick; concrete was used for the minaret, which towers over Constanta at a height of 47 meters. Inside, you will find some beautiful paintings and an oriental rug, donated by the Turkish government. The dimensions of the rug are impressive: 9 by 16 meters, wheighing in at a total of 490 kilograms!
