Unification Square, the Square of King Matthias Corvinus, constitutes a major part of life in Cluj-Napoca. The cultural life, transport and business activities of the Middle Ages were organized around this square, which is now considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Romania.
The area is surrounded by baroque facades, and there are many bars and restaurants. The size of the square (220 by 160 meters) makes it one of the largest squares in Romania. At its center is the magnificent Church of St. Michael, some ancient Roman ruins and a statue of the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus (1443-1490), while the Banffi Castle sits to the northeast.
