At the heart of the Brasov’s historic center, you can find the Saint Nicholas Church. The church was built some time during the 14th century. It was later rebuilt out of stone in 1495, and then further renovated with the help of Neagoe Basarab, the Prince of Wallachia from 1512 to 1521. The neighborhood of the church quickly became an important cultural and spiritual center of the Romanians of Brasov, due to its proximity to the Romanian School.
This church, originally built in the Gothic style, underwent a Baroque-influenced transformation during the 18th century, giving it its present-day form. Some of the main attractions of the church, its remarkable frescoes, were created during this period.
