200 years after their disappearance from the country, bison are once again living in Romania. Reservations have been created in the country over many years, one of the most significant being the one in the village of Acris (town of Vama Buzaului) . This project began in 2008, with support from the municipalities of Vama Buzaului and Prejmer, with the goal of creating a nature reserve for bison. The initiative is now supported by the European Union, and has raised five bison from Austria, Italy and Switzerland. There are now 23 bison that inhabit the 100 of the reserve, and the development is not stopping here. They plan to expand the park, in order to make the animals feel like they are in their natural habitat.
