Despite the destruction of many green areas during the Communist era, Bucharest is still a city with many forests, such as the beautiful Herastrau Park. This park is located north of city and borders the Charles de Gualle Square (a statue of whom you can find at the entrance to the park).
In order to make the park, the entire area was drained from 1930 to 1935, and was opened to the public in 1936. In the center of the park is Herastrau Lake, is one of the lakes in the northern part of the city formed by the Colentina River.
There are two buildings located in the park: the Museum of the Village and the Summer Theater, which was built in 1956 and is a weekly host for various shows.
