The Lipscani District is the historical center and oldest neighborhood of Bucharest. The majority of the historical monuments of the city can be found here. It was built during 1459 by order of Vlad the Impaler, who lived by the Old Court (Curtea Veche). The neighborhood hosted many fairs that were attended by Hungarian and Saxon merchants.
Since the year 2000, the district has undergone a lot of change; most of the dilapidated buildings have been renovated and the neighborhood has become more vibrant. This is the heart of Bucharest, where you can find many bars, nightclubs, theaters, and charming restaurants.
The main tourist sites in the Lipscani District are the Church of St. Demetrius, the Old Court, Manuc’s Inn, the National History Museum, and the Caru’ cu Bere restaurant.
