This museum is part of the large family of ethnographic museums created in Central and Eastern Europe during the 20th century. This museum is undeniably interesting from an ethnographic point of view, and it is important to keep in mind that these collections are presented with the goal of strengthening the national identity over time.
The ASTRA Museum Complex is an open-air museum with a size of 96 hectares, situated in a park with a scenic lake in the middle. It is a great spot to explore the local culture and nature, and features a good upkeep and calm atmosphere. The full museum opened in 1967, and houses about 300 buildings: workshops, windmills, and our personal favorite, a playing area for an early version of bowling! All of these structures were taken from different areas of the city in order to be reconstructed inside the museum, and are considered historical monuments.
