This royal church is located in the former courtyard of the Wallachian cheiftans, which houses most of the ruins. Built on the orders of Basarab I, the church was completed in 1352 and is in very good condition. The most interesting things to see are located inside the building. There you can enjoy the oldest still visible frescoes in Romania (made between 1364 and 1366). The initial idea for the shape of the church was to construct it in the shape of a Greek cross, as it was supposed to serve as a necropolis for the royalty of Wallachia.
The unusual presentation of the pregnant Virgin Mary raises much curiosity from visitors.
