Squares of Stefan the Great and Avram Iancu
The Squares of Stefan the Great (Piata Stefan Cel Mare) and Avram Iancu are located on either side of Eroilor Boulevard. Many of the public service buildings of the city are located in this area, which is just a few hundred meters from Unification Square.
In the Square of Stefan the Great one can find the National Theater, the Romanian Opera, the Courthouse, Teachers’ House, and the Park Opera. On the other side is the Avram Iancu Square, which was called Hitler Square during the Second World War (a reminder that Cluj-Napoca was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). This square is home to the Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary.
