Built between 1920 and 1930, shortly after Romania’s annexation of Transylvania, this cathedral became the seat of the Archbishop of Cluj during 1973, as well as the seat of the Diocese of the Cluj, Salaj and Maramures counties in 2006.
The cathedral’s dominant feature is its tower, around which 18 columns were built. Four smaller towers are arranged around the structure. The murals of the cathedral were made shortly after its construction (1928-1933), and are the work of Anastase Demian and Catul Bogdan, two professors from the Cluj-Napoca Art Academy.
