The former monastery of Berca dominates this small town in the Buzau County, and is place that arouses interest. Unfortunately, the building that was built in 1694 is not sufficiently maintained from a tourism and cultural perspective. The monastery’s church, dedicated to the Saints Michael and Gabriel, was surrounded by walls of a Brancovenesc style in the 18th century (Brancoveanu was a Prince of Romania during the 17th and 18th centuries).
The brick reinforcements were created as a precaution, in order to protect this strategic point of the Buzau Valley. However, they did not manage to survive the passage of time, and now lie in ruins. Restoration projects are being discussed in Berca, with the hope that the local authorities will restore the monastery to its former glory.
