Braila is a city that doesn’t attract much interest, besides the fact that it is the intersection between Dobrogea and Muntenia. Once you arrive at Machin, follow the flow of Dunarea Veche (Old River) to the village of Smardan, where you can take the ferry to Braila. Make sure to be in Smardan in the afternoon, as the ferry trips are at 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30. If you arrive between these hours, head towards the docks to get your car loaded onto the boat. For two-person vehicles, the fee is 24 lei/5.5 euros.
Braila is one of the largest cities of Muntenia, with over 230,000 inhabitants. Despite its size, the city does not receive particular interest, as it is lacking in historical monuments and architecture from the communist period. Located on the left bank of the Danube, Braila is still an attractive city. Walks along the banks of the Danube, throughout Trayan Square and the Salt Lake (Lacu Sarat) to the south of the city are very frequent among the local residents.
