The Genoese Lighthouse is not the most famous monument of the city, but it is an illustration of the history of Constanta and its relationship with the sea.
The construction of this 8 meter tall building was carried out by Genoese merchants during the 13th century. A large part of the lighthouse was damaged during the passage of time, until it was rebuilt under the direction of the French architect Artin Aslan in the mid-19th century. By the year 1913, it was once again operational.
Many questions remain as to the origin of this lighthouse and the date of its construction. Some sources suggest that it was simply named in honor of the Genoese population of Constanta, without them actually being involved in its construction.
