Ce festival, qui a lieu tous les ans le 1er week-end de juin, est riche de folklore et de traditions.
Il commence le vendredi avec le couronnement de la reine de la rose, choisie parmi les bachelières de l’année... pour ses qualités physiques surtout, bref, c’est un peu l’élection de Miss Kazanlak !
Le festival se poursuit tôt le samedi matin avec la cérémonie de la cueillette, suivie de chants et de danses folkloriques. La journée continue avec un cortège carnavalesque conduit par Baï Ganiou (personnage caricatural, représentant un commerçant parvenu, goujat et sans-gêne qui parcourt le monde afin de vendre son essence de rose). Le défilé se clôture par le char du roi et de la reine des roses qui, au passage, aspergent les spectateurs d'une pluie d'eau de rose.
Le samedi et le dimanche, expos de peintures et de photos autour de la rose, spectacles de rue en costumes traditionnels, artisanat, parades et même des démonstrations répétées de l’élaboration de l’essence de rose dans le jardin du musée ethnographique.
Kazanlak est la capitale de la rose, symbole en Bulgarie de la jeunesse, de la beauté et de la santé.
